I've tweaked my food lifestyle once again, trying to incorporate a LOT more raw foods into my daily life. I've gone back to my daily green smoothies and, since it's summer, it's a lot easier. We joined a CSA and have been devouring every bit of the produce weekly--my smoothies alone use about 4-6 pounds of greens in a week.
Why am I doing this? Several reasons. Since going vegan over 4 1/2 years ago, and witnessing the amazing changes in my body, it occurred to me that I had not changed how I cared for the skin on my face. I was still using lots of product (toner, exfoliant, acne treatments, etc.). Since so much has changed in my body, I realized that, mostly likely, I was over treating my skin. I was damaging it. And, since January, I have been having more acne breakouts, which is just ridiculous when you're 44! It also occurred to me that men only wash their faces and J. has fabulous skin.
So that's all I'm doing now, twice a day. I wash my face and then I leave it alone. I let it breathe and heal. I'm not even using makeup; I haven't used makeup really in many years, thinking it makes me look older. Besides, eye shadow creases, lipstick cakes, and mascara flakes, not to mention the toxins that are in that stuff. So I'm au natural and it feels great. (Not to mention it saves time in my day so that I can read!).
I'm reading two books about raw foods, looking for quick and easy recipes; Raw Food: A Complete Guide for Every Meal of the Day by Erica Palmcrantz and Irmela Lilja (both are Swedish) and Going Raw: Everything You Need to Know to Start Your Own Raw Food and Lifestyle Revolution at Home by Judita Wignall.
One great benefit of eating more raw is that my kitchen is a lot cooler, a bonus in this 90 degree heat!
